Lightning Win Final Home Game

The Rockford Lightning ended the regular season with a bang on Sunday afternoon at the MetroCentre with a 133-115 victory over the Dakota Wizards.

Dakota came out firing in the first quarter scoring the first six points of the game before increasing their lead to as much as 12 points with 3 minutes remaining. Down 10 with 1:43 in the quarter, Rockford fought back to tie the game at 33 before Quintrus Sherrill hit a three-point basket at the buzzer to give the Wizards the quarter.

The first was also the last quarter-point that the Wizards would get on the Lightning's court that game. Rockford took the second quarter 30-27 to head into the half tied up at 63 points apiece. Roger Powell came out on a mission in the second half scoring 18 points in the third quarter. Cordell Henry added 13 of his 27 points in the third as well; the two Lightning starters combined to score 31 points as Rockford out-scored the Wizards 33-24 in the quarter.

Fields scored 11 points in the final quarter to help the Lightning to a 37-28 quarter win and give them 6.0-quarter points with the victory. Ronnie finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals in the game. He ended the regular season with 1,044 points, 270 rebounds, 193 assists, and 109 steals in 47 games for the Lightning. He ranked second in the league in scoring (22.1 ppg), and first in steals with 2.32 a game. This marks the third time in the last four years that Ronnie has led the league in steals while finishing among the top two scorers in the CBA.

Roger Powell hit two free throws with 0:31 remaining in the game to break Kendrick Warren's Lightning rookie scoring record of 1,012 points in his first season. Warren set the record back in the 1994-95 season when he averaged 18.1 points a game as a rookie over 56 games. Powell averaged 21.1 points per game (third highest in the CBA) over 48 games this season, and finished with 1,013 points in his first season out of the University of Illinois.

Marlon Parmer is really coming on strong heading into the playoffs as he picked up his tenth double double of the season with 14 points and 11 assists off the bench. John Jackson tied his season high with 18 points in the game.

Rockford finished with a 30-18 record this season and the fourth highest quarter point average in the CBA (4.00). "30 wins is the bench mark of a good season in the CBA", said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. "It was a great crowd yesterday, and I am glad we were able to give them a win."

The Lightning will travel to Yakama in a rematch with the Sun Kings on Tuesday night at 9:05 P.M. (CST). They will then return home to face the Idaho Stampede at 7:05 P.M. on Thursday, March 16th at the MetroCentre. The Lightning's first round finishes on Monday, March 20th with Rockford traveling to Sioux Falls in a rematch of last season's CBA finals at 7:05 P.M. The two teams with the highest quarter point average in the first round will face off in the 2006 CBA finals.
