Lightning take over first place

November 25, 2005 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release

Marlon Parmer led all Lightning scorers on a night that saw a season record six Rockford players score in double figures. Parmer finished the game with a game high and Lightning season record 39 points on 14 of 24 shooting from the field. He also recorded 6 rebounds and 4 assists in a 126-119 Lightning victory over the Albany Patroons on Thanksgiving Day in New York.

Cordell Henry had his second consecutive twenty point plus performance coming off the bench to score 21 while hitting 2 of 4 from the arc and recording a team high 3 steals. Henry was just one of four Lightning bench players to score in double figures Thursday night. Mark Strickland and Sidney Holmes finished with 11 and 10 points respectively. But it was rookie Kenyon Gamble that finished with a near triple double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and a career and league high 7 blocks that took the spotlight.

Gamble is now leading the league in blocks averaging 4.5 per game. He is on pace to record 216 blocks in his rookie season with the Lightning which would place him at the top of the Lightning's All-Time blocks leaders. He has been a very strong presence in the paint and a big part of the Lightning's 3-1 record heading into tonight's rematch in Albany.

The Rockford Lightning took six quarter points for the second straight game while shooting a season best 58.3 percent from the field. Ronnie Fields added 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists turning in another solid performance by the Lightning's All-Time leading scorer and Rockford fan favorite.

Free throw shooting has been the weak spot of the Lightning in the young season. They were only able to convert on 60.5 percent of their free throw attempts Thursday night, which was just 2.2 percent higher than their field goal percentage. Parmer went to the charity stripe 16 times in Thursday's win converting on 11 attempts.

The number 1 overall pick in the 2005 CBA draft Ronald "T.J." Thompson out of George Washington University led the Patroons with 31 points, 7 assists and 5 steals while shooting 5 of 11 from the arc. Carl Mitchell also turned in 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Patroons in their second loss of the season.

The Lightning will stay in Albany tonight for a rematch with the Patroons at 6:35 P.M. (CST) before returning home to face the Michigan Mayhem on Sunday night at the MetroCentre.
