TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning selected defenseman Anthony DeAngelo in the first round, 19th overall, at the 2014 NHL Draft at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia this evening, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced. Tampa Bay also traded the 28th overall selection to the New York Islanders in exchange for the 35th and 57th overall picks on Saturday.

DeAngelo, 18, skated in 51 games with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League, posting 15 goals and 71 points to go along with 90 penalty minutes. He led all OHL defensemen for points and assists (56) last season. The 5-foot-11, 167-pound defenseman registered six of his 15 goals while on the power-play. DeAngelo set career highs for goals, assists, points and penalty minutes during the 2013-14 season. He also led all OHL defensemen for assists in 2012-13 with 49.

The Sewell, New Jersey native has skated in 181 career OHL games, all with the Sting over three seasons, recording 30 goals and 152 points to go along with 196 penalty minutes. DeAngelo has also appeared in 10 career OHL playoff games, collecting two goals and four points.
