Minnesota Wild Selects Forward Alex Tuch in 2014 NHL Entry Draft

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Wild selected forward Alex Tuch with the 18th overall selection during the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft Friday night in Philadelphia.

"We are very happy to add Alex to the Minnesota Wild organization," said Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr. "He's a big strong winger with quality hands and an NHL shot. We feel that he has tremendous upside and we are very excited to add a potential power forward to our group of prospects."

Tuch, 18 (5/10/96), spent the past two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP) in Ann Arbor, Mich. The 6-foot-3.5, 218-pound native of Syracuse, N.Y., posted 64 points (29-3564) in 61 games with the USNTDP Under-18 Team in 2013-14, tying for the team lead with seven game-winning goals and a plus-35 rating. With Team USA, he won a gold medal at the 2014 Under-18 World Championship, posting three assists in seven games, earned a bronze medal at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with four points (1-34) in six games and finished first at the 2012 Four Nations Tournament. Tuch entered the Draft as the No. 12 ranked forward by NHL Central Scouting and is committed to Boston College for the fall of 2014.

The 2014 NHL Entry Draft will conclude with rounds 2-7 Saturday in Philadelphia, broadcast on NHL Network, beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
