Rockford Lightning News Release
Fans who came out to see the Lightning on Valentine's Day were not disappointed.
Although the Lightning lost a heartbreaker in the final minute, several fans had
plenty to be cheerful about as they left the MetroCentre with more than they came in
with.
With the special Valentine's Day giveaway, a woman who attended Tuesday night's game
with her family won a $1,200 diamond ring courtesy of B. Sanfield when she unlocked
the box with the winning key before the Lightning tip-off. She was given her prize
in a halftime presentation that night and walked away with a beautiful new diamond
ring and a bouquet of flowers from one of Rockford's most respected
jewelers.
Another Lightning fan hit a half-court shot that won him $500 from Miller Lite on
the same night. Three different fans out of 19 have hit the shot to win the
Rockford Lightning's half-court shot sponsored by Miller Lite, which is done at
every home game this season. Along with all of the other exciting giveaways and on
court promotions, the Rockford Lightning has been making the 20th anniversary season
an enjoyable time for fans of all ages.
Rockford has packed a lot of excitement in the remaining 5 home games this season.
On February 21st, the Rockford Chamber of Commerce will be holding a function at the
Lightning game against the Gary Steelheads, where one chamber member could unlock
the box containing the keys to a brand new 2007 Saturn Sky. There is also a lot of
exciting halftime entertainment with the Extreme Team Dunking Specialists and the
University of Illinois Illinettes Dance Team each sharing time on the floor that
night. The Illinettes will be in town for Illini Night at the MetroCentre, joining
former Illini legend Kenny Battle and the Rockford Area Illini Club for a fun night
with the Lightning. Fans are encouraged to wear orange and blue to the game against
the Steelheads to show their support for Roger Powell and the University of
Illinois.
Other exciting halftime entertainment returning to Rockford this season are the
Jesse White Tumblers coming on Sunday, February 26, for the 3:05 game against the
Albany Patroons. Quick Change will be making their return on Sunday, March 12, for
a 3:05 game against the Dakota Wizards. The game on February 26th is also Boy Scout
/ Girl Scout Day with the Lightning along with being Freddy Flash's birthday
celebration. Several mascots from the Rockford area will be joining Freddy at the
game to help celebrate the big event.
The Lightning also have four giveaways planned over the last five home games including a drawstring bag on February 21st, a Ronnie Fields bobblehead on February 26th, a team poster on March 7th, and a 6-pack cooler on March 12th.
