Comeback Falls Short for Lightning
February 15, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release
Ronnie Fields picked up the first triple double of his Lightning career on Tuesday
night, but it was not enough as the Lightning came up short for the third straight
game.
Fields finished the game with 31 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and 4 steals in a
111-120 loss to the Gary Steelheads at the MetroCentre on Tuesday night. The
Lightning were down 78-97 heading into the fourth quarter when Ronnie Fields came
out on fire. He scored 22 points in the final quarter to bring the team within 2
points in the final minute. Gary hit a couple key field goals and sank 3 of 4 free
throws in the final 30 seconds to ice the game and win their third game on
Rockford's home court this season.
"We certainly had some intensity in the fourth quarter and with Fields playing like
he did, it instantly picked up the team and gave us a lot of energy," Lightning
assistant coach David Stockton said. "I wish we could have came out with that
intensity early, but unfortunately we didn't."
Brant Bailey finished with 21 points as he made his first start in a Lightning
uniform this season. Bailey took the place of injured guard Marlon Parmer who was
placed on the injured reserve on Monday with a sprained finger. Lenny Cooke took
Parmer's roster spot, but only played 3 minutes in the loss.
Head Coach Chris Daleo and the Lightning will travel to Albany to take on the
Patroons in a Friday night match up at the Washington Avenue Armory beginning at
6:35 P.M. (CST). Lightning fans can follow along with the team while they are on
the road this season by logging onto www.cbahoopsonline.com and checking out the
LIVE webcasts.
The Lightning will return home to face the Gary Steelheads on Tuesday, February 21, at the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Lightning drawstring bag courtesy of axberg heating. Tip-off for the contest is 7:05 P.M. (CST) with doors opening at 6:00.
