Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The 2006 NBA All-Star Game is this weekend and former Skyforce head coach Phil "Flip" Saunders (pictured above) will be roaming the sidelines for the Eastern Conference squad after leading the Pistons to the best record in the Eastern Conference as they are currently an NBA-best 42-9 (.824).
Saunders is in his 11th season as head coach in the NBA (first with Detroit) after coaching seven seasons in the CBA with Rapid City, La Crosse and Sioux Falls. Saunders led La Crosse to two CBA Championships in 1990 and 1992. He was with the Skyforce for just one season (1994-95) as he led them to a 34-22 record and their first ever playoff appearance before he was hired by the Minnesota Timberwolves following the season. Additionally, Saunders' coaching stint for the Eastern Conference squad Feb. 19 will make him just the sixth coach in NBA All-Star history to coach both the Eastern Conference and Western Conference All-Star teams, joining among others fellow CBA coaching alum Phil Jackson on that list.
