Lightning Come Up Short In Overtime Loss
February 8, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release
Ronnie Fields scored 30 points for the second consecutive game, but it was not
enough as the Lightning fell to the Gary Steelheads for the third straight time in
the last five days.
After building up an eleven point lead at the half and leading by as many as 15
points, the Lightning came out in the third battling for the quarter point. Losing
the third by one point on a last second layup by Jimmie Hunter, the Lightning
appeared to still have the game under control. Trailing by ten to start the final
quarter, Gary fought their way back to force an overtime period.
When Fields came up short on a three-point attempt with 1.7 seconds remaining on the
clock, the Lightning lost their first home game since December 10, 2005. The team
managed just 2.0-quarter points in the 124-127 overtime loss.
Marlon Parmer added 16 points and 8 assists while Cordell Henry brought in 27 points
off the bench. Fields added 6 rebounds, and 5 assists to his 30 points on the
night. Brant "the baffler" Bailey, the newest member of the Lightning, made his
return to Rockford after playing overseas in Venezuela and Australia picking up 12
points and 3 rebounds in 15 minutes of play.
