Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today announced that they have re-signed forward Tyler Liebel.
A 22 year-old native of Osoyoos, British Columbia, Liebel contributed eight goals and 24 points in 42 games during his rookie campaign. The gritty, 5-10, 185-pound left wing was not afraid too mix it up either, picking up 104 penalty minutes last season and earning numerous Lewis Street Glass Rattler of the Game Awards.
"Tyler was a key player on our team last season", said Thunder head coach Derek Laxdal. "He's quick, has good hands and plays a physical game. I think he will enjoy even more success with a year under his belt."
Prior to turning pro, Liebel (pronounced LEE-bull) played college hockey at NCAA Division I powerhouse Colorado College. In four seasons, he notched 54 points, played in three NCAA tournaments and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Economics.
Liebel is the eighth player signed for the upcoming season, joining rookie forwards Tim Earl and Ryan Coghlan, rookie defensemen Brandon Cox and Darren McMillan, as well as veteran forwards Joe Blaznek, Travis Clayton and Jason Duda.
The Thunder will open their 14th CHL season on Friday, October 21st, playing once again in the Northwest Division. The Thunder will face heated competition within the division all season long, battling the Colorado Eagles, Tulsa Oilers and the Oklahoma City Blazers, as they strive for their third consecutive postseason berth.
Season tickets and corporate packages for the 2005-06 season are on sale now. To order your tickets or for more information, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com.
