New York Liberty News Release
NEW YORK , April 2, 2007 - The New York Liberty traded center Kelly Schumacher to the Phoenix Mercury for a 2008 WNBA second round draft pick. Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager Carol Blazejowski made the announcement today.
A six year WNBA veteran, the 6'5" Schumacher played in 21 games for the Liberty averaging 7.8 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game and 1.9 blocks per game. She was injured on July 20, 2006 at Sacramento and missed the final 12 games of the 2006 season with a sprained MCL in her left knee.
"This move opens up front court minutes for our newest off-season acquisition, Janel McCarville, the 2005 #1 overall pick, and also allows us to give more playing time to our other younger front court players so they can continue their development," said Blazejowski.
