Liberty Re-Signs Kraayeveld

January 12, 2009 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
New York Liberty News Release

President and General Manager Carol Blazejowski announced today that the New York Liberty have matched the offer sheet for restricted free agent Cathrine Kraayeveld and signed the forward to a three-year contract. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Originally signed by New York as a free agent on July 1, 2005, Kraayeveld received an offer sheet from the Seattle Storm on January 7, with the Liberty given five days to match.

Kraayeveld was the only player on the Liberty roster to start all 34 regular season games, in addition to the six playoff match-ups during the 2008 WNBA season, while leading New York in rebounding with a career-high 6.1 boards per game. During New York's Eastern Conference title run last summer, she was ranked fifth in the league for rebounds, with 7.5 per game. Kraayeveld has appeared in 119 career games for the Liberty, with 81 starts. Over that span, she has averaged 8.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, while shooting .377-percent from beyond-the-arc.

The Liberty will tip-off the 2009 WNBA regular season in front of its home crowd at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, June 7 against the Connecticut Sun. Season tickets and ticket plans are available now by calling 212-465-6073 or by logging onto NYLiberty.com. Individual game tickets will be available for purchase in the spring.
