Lexington Legends Baseball Kicks-Off Juneteenth Weekend with Local Negro League Tribute

Lexington, KY - For a second year, the Lexington Legends professional baseball team prepares to play as the Lexington Hustlers: a tribute to Lexington's first professional baseball team, who played under the same name, in the Negro Leagues.

Starting Friday, June 17th, up to Juneteenth - Sunday, June 19th - the Lexington Legends will wear special "Hustlers" jerseys for the following promotional nights:

Josh Paschal Bobblehead Give Away-- the first 500 fans at Wild Health Field will receive a custom, former University of Kentucky football player, Josh Paschal bobblehead.

Saturday, June 18, 2022

Faith & Family Night -- fans are welcome to join us for baseball, post-game fireworks, and a post-game concert featuring a local Christian band!

Father's Day -- enjoy nine innings of giveaways geared towards Dad! Thanks to friends at Alumni Hall there is the chance to walk away with new swag!

The Lexington Hustlers were owned and operated entirely by African Americans, The Lexington Hustlers professional baseball club welcomed players from all racial backgrounds becoming the first Negro League team in the south to integrate in 1947. From 1945 to 1952, baseball fans gathered at Bluegrass Athletic Field off Newtown Pike to watch the Hustlers play. The Hustlers were led by local players such as "Scoop" Brown, Lou Johnson and Bobby Flynn. As an independent team, the Hustlers played exhibition games against some of the game's greatest names like Satchel Paige, Henry Aaron and Willie Mays.
