Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - Royce Lewis pounded out four hits, including two homers, and drove in five to lead the Fort Myers Miracle to a 13-0 rout of the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Monday night at Publix Field.
Lewis' first home run was a two-run shot to open the scoring in the third. It came off Casey Mize, the first overall pick by Detroit in this year's draft. Lewis was the top pick in last year's draft by the Twins. Taylor Grzelakowski followed with a solo homer, the first time the Miracle have gone back-to-back this season.
Fort Myers broke open the game with a five-run fourth inning. Travis Blankenhorn led off with his team-leading 11th home run of the season. Lewis later added an RBI single and Grzelakowski had an RBI double. Alex Kirilloff delivered a two-run single.
The Miracle drew three bases-loaded walks off Brandyn Sittinger in the sixth inning to expand the lead to 11-0. Ryan Costello, Blankenhorn, and Mark Contreras each picked up an RBI in the frame.
The final runs came in the ninth on another two-run home run by Lewis off Andres Sthormes, who began the game as the designated hitter.
It was the second four-hit game for Lewis with the Miracle. Both have come in Lakeland. He also now has two five RBI games in his time with Fort Myers.
The Miracle had 12 hits in the contest. Grzelakowski, Kirilloff, and Caleb Hamilton picked up two apiece.
Charlie Barnes started for the Miracle, went 4.1 innings, and allowed six hits. He walked one and struck out three. Hector Lujan (5-3) earned the win in relief with 3.2 scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and struck out four, moving his scoreless inning streak to 19.
Ryan Mason completed the shutout with a scoreless ninth inning. It is the ninth shutout win of the season for the Miracle.
The series continues on Tuesday night at Publix Field. Right-hander Griffin Jax will start for Fort Myers.
