Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Celebrating the success of the 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates, their proud Double-A affiliate, the Altoona Curve are planning a special "Let's Go Bucs Day", sponsored by Keller Engineers, on Saturday, August 13 at Blair County Ballpark.
The Curve will open the gates at 4 p.m. (two hours earlier than normal), so that fans can gather to watch the FOX broadcast of the Pirates-Milwaukee Brewers' game on the BCB video board and all of the televisions in the concourses and suites. The game between the two National League Central Division contenders is scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m. At the same time, fans will have the rare opportunity to see the Curve and Reading Phillies take batting practice. From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Grant Jackson, the winning pitcher for the Pirates in Game 7 of the 1979 World Series, will meet and greet fans and sign autographs.
Adding to the fans' experience, the first 1,000 fans through the gates that day will receive a commemorative poster of 12 former Curve players on the 2011 Pirates' roster. The players have been drawn by team cartoonist, Bill Bettwy, making it a collectible item found "Only in Curve, PA". A full-team autograph session of the 2011 Altoona Curve is also planned for the day so that fans can meet and greet the Pirates' "Stars of Tomorrow".
Following the pre-game festivities, the contest between the Curve and Reading Phillies will begin at 7 p.m. with in-game entertainment to be provided by the nationally-known "super nerd", Myron Noodleman. Plus, the Pirate Pierogies will make their Blair County Ballpark debut.
"We're really excited to see the Pirates in contention for the National League Central Division," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "This will be a special day for Curve and Pirates' fans to get together and celebrate that success and the bond between the two organizations. We can't wait to say 'Let's Go Bucs' together on August 13."
