Eastern League Names Pitcher and Player of the Week

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of August 1st through August 7th:
New Britain Rock Cats infielder Brian Dozier has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 1st-August 7th. The 24-year old hit .520 (13-for-25) with four doubles, four RBI, one run scored, one stolen base, one walk and a .680 slugging percentage in six games for the Rock Cats last week. Dozier, who is a native of Tupelo, Mississippi, kicked off his week by going 3-for-6 with one double and three RBI in a 6-5, 12-inning loss at Erie on Tuesday night. He went on to have four multiple hit games during the week, including three three-hit performances. The 5'11", 190 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.520), hits (13), doubles (4) and on-base percentage (.538) last week. He also ranked among the weekly leaders in total bases (17-tied 1st), OPS (1.218-2nd), extra-base hits (4-tied 3rd) and slugging percentage (.680-5th). Dozier started the season with Class-A Ft. Myers and earned a promotion to New Britain on June 6th after hitting .322 with 32 runs scored in 49 games. Brian, who is hitting .328 with 15 doubles, six triples, 34 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 50 games with the Rock Cats, was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the eighth round of the 2009 draft after batting .355 in four seasons at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Austin Adams, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Akron Aeros, has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 1st-August 7th. The 5'11", 185 lb. hurler made two appearances for the Aeros last week and had a record of 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched. Roark, who is a native of Millbrook, Alabama, made his first start of the week on Tuesday night at Trenton and allowed just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over five innings of work to earn the win as the Aeros edged the Thunder 3-2. In his second appearance of the week on Sunday at Canal Park the 24-year old scattered seven hits over 6.2 innings to earn the win as Akron downed New Britain 10-2. He allowed two runs while striking out five batters and walking one. Adams has earned a win in each of his last for starts for the Aeros and is currently tied for fifth in the league with nine wins on the season. Austin, who pitched one scoreless inning for the Western Division at the 2011 Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fifth round of the 2009 draft after going 5-2 with 42 strikeouts and a 5.83 ERA and driving in a team-high 51 runs during his senior season at Faulkner University.
