
Lemurs Sweep Sioux City, Stay in First

Laredo, TX - The Lemurs closed out the home portion of the 2013 season Thursday night with a 6-5 comeback victory and a series sweep of Sioux City at Uni-Trade Stadium.
Laredo (49-41) fell behind early as the Explorers (31-59) scored three times in the second inning. The lead increased to 4-0 with another Sioux City run in the third.
The Lemurs come-from-behind bid began with a solo home run in the fourth off the bat of Mike Provencher. Laredo continued to chip away with a one-out, two-run homer from John Alonso in the fifth. Another fifth-inning run made it 5-4 in favor of Sioux City. The Lemurs tied the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by John Allen that scored Brian Peterson from third. The go-ahead and eventual winning run scored in the seventh on a Peterson single that plated Jimmy Mojica from second. The comeback bid was complete when reliever Chad Povich nailed down his fourth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Seth Lintz picked up the win in relief for Laredo. Lintz (2-1) pitched two and two-thirds and did not allow a run on three hits with two strikeouts. Sioux City reliever Mike Jefferson suffered the loss. Jefferson (0-2) gave up one earned run on three hits with two walks.
At the plate for the Lemurs, Mike Provencher went 4-for-4 with a home run, three singles, and two runs batted in. Brian Peterson had a three-hit night as well. Stephen Douglas reached four times with three walks and a single.
Laredo picked up its sixth series sweep of the season, and finished the home schedule with a record of 32-18. The Lemurs now head out on the road for the final ten games on a four-game winning streak. Laredo is also two games in front of both Grand Prairie and Amarillo for first place in the South Division. The Lemurs next game is Saturday night in Newark, New Jersey at 6:05.
