Lemurs Lose Series to T-Bones

Kansas City, KS - Kansas City used a five-run fifth inning tonight to beat Laredo 6-4 in the series finale at Community America Ballpark.

The Lemurs and T-Bones were scoreless to start the bottom of the fifth when Kansas City right fielder Ray Sadler led off with a single. A sacrifice bunt by short stop Felix Molina moved Sadler up to second. The next batter, catcher Steve Yoo, then singled home Sadler for the game's first run. Yoo advanced to second on the scoring play. With two outs, center fielder Kennard Jones tripled to drive in Yoo for a 2-0 T-Bones lead. Second baseman Jairo Perez and first baseman Matt Padgett both reached via walks to load the bases. Third baseman Devin Goodwin then walked after working the count full to score Kansas City's third run. The damage continued with designated hitter Brandon Jones racking up a two-out, two-run single to score Perez and Padgett for a 5-0 lead after five.

Laredo would crack the scoreboard with a run in the sixth. Short stop Jimmy Mojica was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a single from first baseman Mike Sheridan. Mojice then scored on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Sawyer Carroll. Trailing 5-1, the Lemurs dented the T-Bones lead again in the top of the seventh. After two quick outs, designated hitter Garrett Rau singled and catcher Garrett Buechele was hit by a pitch. Mojica then belted his fifth home run of the season to shave the lead to 5-4. Kansas City added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-4.

Lemur left-hander David Newman took the loss. Newman (3-2) pitched five innings and allowed five runs (all earned) on nine hits with four walks. He also struck out four in the loss. Kansas City right-hander Shaun Garceau posted his first win of the season. Garceau (1-5) worked eight innings and gave up four runs (all earned) on six base hits. He struck out six and walked none. Reliever Chad Robinson pitched two-thirds of an inning in the ninth for his first save.

The first-place Lemurs (22-14) are now 2-4 against Kansas City (15-21) this season. Laredo starts a new road series at Wichita Monday night. First pitch is set for 7:05. The Lemurs next home series starts Friday, June 28th against Amarillo. For ticket information, visit www.laredolemurs.com .
