Laredo Lemurs News Release
Amarillo, TX - The Lemurs ended a three-game losing streak and avoided a sweep with a 5-2 extra-inning victory Sunday night at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.
Laredo (46-41) moved into a first-place tie in the American Association South Division as Grand Prairie fell to El Paso 9-6. Amarillo (45-42) jumped out first against the Lemurs, scoring a run in the fourth on a Chris Grossman single that plated Jorge Delgado. Laredo tied it in the fifth. Harrison Kain led off with a single. That was followed by a Mike Provencher double. With one out, Jimmy Mojica scored Kain from third on a sacrifice fly to center. The Lemurs then forged ahead in the seventh. Provencher led off with a triple and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to right by Garrett Rau.
The Sox were down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth when Cory Patton doubled to score Jason Martin for a 2-2 tie. Martin had singled, also with two outs in the inning. Laredo scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the tenth. John Allen led off with a single and reached second on a sacrifice bunt from Daniel Poma. Pitcher Kyle Wilson came on to pinch run for Allen and reached third on a wild pitch. Wilson then scored on a base hit by Stephen Douglas. The Lemurs added two more runs in the extra frame. Harrison Kain reached with a single and moved Douglas to second. Mike Provencher then doubled home both base runners for the 5-2 lead.
Laredo starter Sean Tracey worked six and two-thirds with five strikeouts and one walk. Tracey allowed just one run on seven hits but did not factor in the decision. Chad Povich posted the win in relief. Povich (2-2) pitched an inning and allowed one earned run on two hits with one strikeout. Seth Lintz came on in the tenth and struck out two for his first save of the season. Erik Draxton took the loss for Amarillo. Draxton (1-5) pitched two innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on six hits with two strikeouts.
At the plate, Mike Provencher was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs batted in, and a run scored. John Allen also had a three-hit night. Stephen Douglas and Harrison Kain both collected two base hits. Cory Patton posted a four-hit night in defeat for Amarillo. Laredo is now 4-1 in extra-inning games this season. The Sox dropped to 1-7 in extras. The Lemurs return to Uni-Trade Stadium for their final home series of the season starting Tuesday, August 20th against the Sioux City Explorers.
