July 28, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Birmingham Legion FC News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL - The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week on Tuesday, and Legion FC defender Alex Crognale got the nod for his standout performance in Saturday's 1-1 draw with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Crognale scored his first goal for the Three Sparks in the 16th minute of the contest. Legion FC won a freekick and expertly timed the delivery and run to beat the Tampa Bay line, and midfielder Bruno Lapa whipped in a low cross that Crognale deposited just inside the far post, past a helpless goalkeeper.

The defender's prowess on the ball and when defending also remain evident, as he led the team by completing 45 of 56 passes and added in six clearances and two interceptions. His long balls and switches from his center back spot continue to be useful tools in the Legion FC attack, as a ball from his own half bypassed the entire Tampa Bay team and found the onrushing Lapa just a few minutes after his goal, but the ensuing shot from Neco Brett was saved.
Crognale is the third Legion FC player to be named to the Team of the Week in the past two weeks, after Lapa and forward Brian Wright made the squad last week after wins over Memphis 901 FC and the Charleston Battery.
