July 28, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Reno 1868 FC News Release

strong debut for beaury: New keeper Ben Beaury made an immediate impact in his first start with the club, racking up six saves. The six saves is tied for the most in a player's debut, with Matt Bersano making six saves in a 1-1 draw against Vancouver in 2017. Beaury's effort kept the game scoreless through 90 minutes, until a penalty in stoppage time gave Sacramento the win.

familiar foe: Reno and Portland have met eight times, with Reno going 6-1-1. Reno's lone loss was the most recent matchup, with Portlandd winning at Greater Nevada Field last August. Reno has never lost in Portland, going 4-0-0 including a 2-1 come-from-behind win last season.

building off a strong 2019: 2019 saw the squad break club records in wins (18) and points (19) en route to the highest regular season finish in club history (2nd). The strong regular season ended after a postseason defeat at the hands of Sacramento Republic FC in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.

chasing history: Heading into the 2020 season, Corey Hertzog sits fourth all-time in career USL goals with 62. Just ahead of Hertzog with 63 is Birmingham Legion's Chandler Hoffman. With 72 is recentlyretired Jorge Herrera, and leading the USL Championship is Charlotte's Dane Kelly with 78. Hertzog has a healthy lead on fifth-place George Davis, who owns 56 and currently plays for Louisville City FC. Of the top five all-time goal scorers in USL history, Hertzog is the only one to have scored more than 10 goals last season.

four year men: Reno's 2020 squad includes two players from the club's inaugural 2017 season, defenders Brent Richards and Thomas Janjigian. Richards owns club records in starts (87) and caps (90). Janjigian is 10th all-time in starts with 40. Through the club's first four seasons, the boys in blue have played 104 games (including playoffs) and Richards has missed just 14.

league history: In 2019, Reno tied FC Cincinnati for the most regular-season wins in a club's first three seasons with 51. Reno and Cincinnati are the only clubs to win 50 matches through three seasons, and Reno did so with a +75 goal differential to Cincinnati's +50. Reno is also one of just six teams to make the playoffs in each of their first three seasons. Only FCC, Reno, Louisville City, Swope Park Rangers, New York Red Bulls II and Sacramento Republic FC accomplished the feat.

New guy making an impact: Midfielder Christiano François scored and assisted in his Reno 1868 FC debut in week one, earning USL Team of the Week honors. François is the first player to earn the honor in 2020, after 13 different players earned the honors in 2019.

home or road, doesn't matter: Reno has three more road games to play before making a return to Greater Nevada Field, going 1-1-0 to start the season on the road. Last season, the boys in blue went 10-5- 2 away from home, the most wins in a single season in club history. All time, Reno actually boasts a better record on the road than at home, going 27-14-13 as opposed to 26-14-12 at Greater Nevada Field.

setting up others: Brent Richards sits fourth all-time in club history with 13 assists, leading all active players. Richards' total is just behind Brian Brown's 14 and Chris Wehan's 15.
