Lexington Legends News Release
After losing a three-run lead in the ninth inning, the Lexington Legends scored once in the top of the tenth and held on for an 8-7 win over the Asheville Tourists Saturday night.
The Legends had broken a 3-3 tie with four runs in the top of the sixth. Ronnie Ramirez singled and went from first to third on a wild pitch by Stephen Dodson when catcher Jordan Pacheco was unable to locate the ball. Ramirez later scored on another wild pitch. Jorge De Leon doubled to left and moved to third on a throwing error by left fielder Scott Robinson. With two out, Eric Suttle singled to score De Leon, one of three hits and two RBI for Suttle. Suttle went to second on the third wild pitch of the inning and scored on Jay Austin's single. Austin stole second and came around to score on a single by Michael Diaz to give Lexington a 7-3 lead.
It was 7-4 when Asheville came up in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Tyler Massey doubled and Ryan Peisel homered to cut the lead to one. Carlos Martinez singled and went to third on an error by Suttle in right field. Robinson's single to right brought home Martinez to tie the game 7-7.
In the top of the tenth, Suttle walked with one out, stole second and went to third on a single by Jay Austin. Michael Diaz doubled to right center to score Suttle with the run that proved to be the winner.
Brian Pellegrini tied the Legends career record for home runs when he hit his seventh of the year in the fourth inning. Pellegrini, who hit 21 for Lexington in 2008, is now tied at 28 for his Legends career along with Tommy Whiteman and Justin Humphries.
Patrick Urckfitz (3-0), who entered the game in the ninth inning and was charged with his first blown save, allowed two hits in the tenth, but struck out the side and got the win. Adam Jorgenson (1-5) was the losing pitcher.
The series continues Sunday, with the first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
