Huntzinger, Ventura Stifle Hot Rods in 6-0 Shutout

Greenville, SC - Brock Huntzinger exacted some revenge on the Bowling Green Hot Rods (31-31), Saturday night at Fluor Field. After turning in his worst performance of the season in Kentucky on June 8th, the right-hander bounced back with 6.0 scoreless innings and five strikeouts as the Drive (34-27) won the series opener 6-0.

It wasn't until Anthony Scelfo's bunt single to leadoff the fourth inning that Huntzinger (4-3) allowed a baserunner. But a double play quickly erased that hit. The Hot Rods managed three more hits before Huntzinger exited, but failed to push across a run.

In breaking a scoreless tie in third inning, the Drive sent 10 batters to the plate on their way to four runs. Mitch Dening led off the inning with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on David Mailman's single against Shane Dyer (1-4).

Greenville continued to show why they are the league's best team with two outs and runners in scoring position, as their next three runs in the frame all came with two outs. Kade Keowen, Ryan Lavarnway, and Will Middlebrooks all tallied RBI-singles.

The Drive tact on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Dent led off the inning with his second triple of the season and scored as Mailman followed with a single. After a single by Tim Federowicz, Anthony Rizzo hit a base-knock of his own to score Mailman.

Felix Ventura tossed the final 3.0 innings to preserve the Drive's South Atlantic League-leading eighth shutout and his fifth save. The Bronx, NY native scattered a pair of hits and a walk, while recording a season-high four strikeouts.

The Drive and Hot Rods continue their three-game series on Sunday with first pitch set for 4:05 PM at Fluor Field. Right-hander Hunter Strickland (3-4, 2.89 ERA) will toe the rubber as Bowling Green counters with lefty Frank De La Santos (3-5, 4.19 ERA).
