Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (5-4) silenced the rally attempts of the Maine Red Claws (2-7) in overtime to take the 105-101 victory Saturday night in Frisco.
The Red Claws came out firing, controlling the first quarter with 53% shooting (5-of-12 outside). The visitors led by as many as nine, but Texas held on and used back-to-back threes from Jameel Warney and Justin Tubbs to take their first lead at the buzzer. The second quarter saw the tables turn as Texas controlled the game. Maine pushed ahead midway through but was answered by two more threes from Warney to set the tone for the remainder of the half. Shooting 67% and 7-of-11 outside, the Legends built up a double-digit lead at the half, entering the break ahead 67-51.
The momentum propelled Texas to the largest lead of the game (+21) early in the third, but both teams hit a cold streak combining for 1-of-13 outside. With a 19-14 quarter, the Red Claws made a dent in the deficit and found the defensive force they needed. The fourth opened with a 12-2 run by the Red Claws to start the back-and-forth. After six lead changes, the clock ran out at 99-all forcing Texas' first overtime matchup of the season. With two minutes to use, Warney and Daryl Macon went perfect (6-of-6) from the free throw line to seal the victory in front of a sold out home crowd.
Rashad Vaughn posted his first double-double of the season with 26 points, 10 rebounds to lead the Legends while Ray Spalding also finished with a double-double off the bench posting 11 points, 10 rebounds. Macon added 20 points, 3 rebounds, and a team-high 9 assists, and fellow two-way Kostas Antetokounmpo had a season-high 6 blocks. Warney and Keith Hornsby rounded out the double-digit scorers with 18 and 17 respectively.
Walter Lemon Jr. led the Red Claws with 18 points, 6 assists while Nick King grabbed a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds. PJ Dozier added 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Vitto Brown and Sheldon Jeter tallied 11 each.
The Legends will hit the road next for a four-game California trip starting with the Stockton Kings Monday at 9pm CT. For information or the full season schedule visit www.TexLegends.com.
