Lake County Captains News Release
(Lexington, KY)--Cameron Likely hit his first home run of the season and German Melendez stroked a key two-run single as the Lexington Legends defeated the Lake County Captains 6-4 Sunday afternoon at Applebee's Park.
The Legends (42-27) jumped on starter Keith Ramsey for two first inning runs on RBI singles by Ryan Kochen and Freddy Acevedo. Likely added a solo home run in the third to make it 3-0.
The Captains (49-20, 97-42) pulled to within 3-2 in the fifth when Nathan Panther led off with a double and Brandon Pinckney walked. Shaun Larkin followed with a double to score Panther. After Legends starter Ernie Sinclair walked Bill Peavey, the Legends brought in reliever Jailen Peguero with the bases loaded. Ben Francisco, who had five RBI on Saturday, then lifted a sacrifice fly to score Pinckney. Peguero (5-13) then retired the next two hitters to end the threat and protect the lead.
Ramsey (13-5) left the game in the sixth after allowing an RBI double to Acevedo. Ignacio Montano entered the game in relief, and, after an intentional walk to John Fagan, surrendered a two-run single to Melendez to make it 6-2.
Lake County rallied for two in the ninth, but Eric Johnson lined out to right field with the bases loaded to end the game.
The Captains and Legends will play the final game of the regular season on Monday afternoon at 2:05. Following an off-day Tuesday, the same two teams will open the SAL playoffs on Wednesday evening at 7:05.
