Cougars rattled late, lose 10-9 in 10 innings

Geneva, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (30-38, 68-66) scored an unearned run in the top of the 10th inning off Edwardo Sierra (3-5) to beat the Cougars (39-29, 80-58), 10-9 in front of 8,091. T.J. Bohn scored the winning run from third base on a throwing error by shortstop Francis Gomez. Justin Dowdy (2-3) pitched four scoreless innings in relief for Wisconsin, including a 1-2-3 10th inning to earn the victory.

The theme of tonight's game was shaky defense for Kane County. They committed three errors, leading to three unearned runs.

Trailing 5-3 in the fifth inning, the Cougars scored six runs on six hits to grab a 9-5 advantage. Nelson Cruz, who finished 2-for-5, 4 RBI, tied the game at five with a two-run single. Jason Basil delivered a sacrifice fly; Beau Craig (3-for-5), Lloyd Turner (2-for-5), and Dustin Majewski (2-for-6) added run-scoring singles. The Cougars sent 12 men to the plate and knocked starter Juan Sandoval (ND) out of the game after four plus innings.

Wisconsin rallied back, scoring the final five runs of the contest. Tomo Aoki made it 9-6 with a two-out single the seventh. Carlos Arroyo tied the game by crushing a three-run homer off Manny Rodriguez in the eighth.

Both teams got off to explosive starts, scoring three runs in their first at-bats. Wisconsin received RBI singles by Jon Nelson and Rene Rivera - Matt Hagen added a sacrifice fly. Brant Colamarino put the Cougars on the board with an RBI single to right field. Cruz tied the game at three, smacking a two-run double down the right field line.

Matt Lynch would last just four innings in tonight's game; he gave up two runs during the fourth inning to give Wisconsin a 5-3 lead. Lynch surrendered an RBI single to Michael Garciaparra and a run-scoring double to Bohn.

The Cougars and the Timber Rattlers wrap up the regular season on Monday afternoon with a 2:00 PM start. RHP Shawn Kohn (6-4, 2.63) makes his 4th start of the season for the Cougars; LHP Cesar Jimenez (8-11, 3.03) will make his 20th start of the season for Wisconsin.
