
Timber Rattlers Rally for 10-9 Extra Inning Win

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. â Following a two-hour, 32-ELFSTROM STADIUM -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers erased a 9-5 deficit to defeat the Kane County Cougars 10-9 in ten innings Sunday night in Geneva, Illinois. Carlos Arroyo hit a three run homer to tie the game in the top of the eighth. Justin Dowdy pitched four innings of scoreless relief to get the win.
Wisconsin got off to a quick start with three first inning runs. RBI singles by Jon Nelson and Rene Rivera put the first two runs across the plate.. A sacrifice fly by Matt Hagen made it 3-0.
The Cougars answered with three runs in their half of the first. Brant Colamarino singled in the first run of the inning. Nelson Cruz doubled down the right field line to knock in two runs to tie the game.
Michael Garciaparra put the Rattlers back in front with a two-out RBI single.. TJ Bohn made it 5-3 Wisconsin with an RBI double into the left field corner.
But, in the bottom of the fifth, Rattler starting pitcher Juan Sandoval walked the first two batters in the inning. Colamarino loaded the bases with an infield single. Cruz singled off the wall in center to plate two runs. Reliever Greg Wear came on an gave up a single to load the bases again. Jason Basil's sacrifice fly to right put Kane County in front 6-5. Beau Craig, Lloyd Turner, and Dustin Majewski followed with consecutive RBI singles for a 9-5 Cougar lead.
Tomo Aoki cut the Cougar lead to 9-6 with an RBI single in the top of the seventh, but the Rattlers left the bases loaded in the inning.
Bohn reached on a one out walk in the eighth. Nelson reached on an error. Arroyo, who earlier in the game extended his hitting streak to twelve games, lined the first pitch of his at bat over the wall in right to tie the game. The homer was Arroyo's first since July 20 at Quad City.
Bohn walked with one out in the tenth, stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch. Kane County drew in the infield and Nelson sent a slow grounder to short. Francis Gomez threw wildly to the plate and Bohn scored to put the Rattlers in front 10-9.
The final game of the regular season for both the Rattlers and Cougars is Monday afternoon. Cesar Jimenez (8-11, 3.03) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Shawn Kohn (6-4, 2.63ERA) is the scheduled starter for Kane County. Game time is 2:00pm.
Wisconsin opens the Midwest League Playoffs Wednesday, September 3 at Pohlman Field in Beloit, Wisconsin against the Beloit Snappers. The next Timber Rattler game at Fox Cities Stadium is Thursday, September 4 against the Snappers for Game Two of the first round of the Midwest League Playoffs. The Rattlers will take on Brewer prospects Rickie Weeks, Tony Gwynn, Jr., and Midwest League MVP Prince Fielder.
