
Legends hold off Intimidators 2-1

The Lexington Legends picked up their fourth straight victory to start the 2009 season, winning their home opener Monday night over the Kannapolis Intimidators 2-1. The Legends are now 4-0 on the season, the best start in club history.
Daniel Meszaros picked up his third save for Lexington. He came on in the ninth inning with runners at first and third and one out, and after a run scored on a wild pitch, Meszaros struck out the next two hitters to nail down the victory for the Legends.
Righthander Robert Bono started and pitched five shutout innings to get the the win.
The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the first with two out when Steve Brown singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Phil Disher. They increased the lead to 2-0 in the fifth when Ricardo Bonfante walked, moved to third on a single by Brandon Barnes and scored when Jay Austin hit into a fielder's choice.
The Legends and the Intimidators will meet again Tuesday night at Applebee's Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Kyle Greenwalt will pitch for Lexington against Kannapolis right-hander Greg Infante.
