Hot Rods Erase Early Deficit, Beat Power 7-4

Charleston, WV (April 13, 2009) - The West Virginia Power scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning of Monday night's game at Appalachian Power Park, but were held hitless the rest of the game, and were outscored 6-0 in the final five innings of the contest as they dropped their fourth game of the season, falling 7-4 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

Edward Garcia started the second inning with a base hit and then stole second base before reaching third on Tim Beckham's error. Erik Huber drove Garcia home on a sacrifice fly. The Hot Rods tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on Jason Corder's RBI single. West Virginia answered quickly in the next half inning. Garcia doubled in Andrew Walker to plate the first run of the inning and Quincy Latimore's two-run single capped the big frame.

It was all Bowling Green after that. Anthony Scelfo's second double of the night plated Jason Tweedy in the fifth inning to make it a two-run game. The Hot Rods then scored three in the seventh to take the lead. Tim Beckham ripped an RBI single before Jake Jeffries doubled in the tying run. Beckham scored later in the inning on a wild pitch. Beckham and Jeffries were destructive again in the ninth inning. Beckham doubled in a run and scored on a base hit from Jeffries.

Chris Andujar (2-0) held the Power hitless and scoreless over two and a third innings to get the victory while Jamie Bagley (1) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get the save. Ramon Aguero (0-1) allowed five runs on eight hits over two and a third and was tagged with the loss. Maurice Bankston started for the Power and allowed just a pair of runs on five hits over five innings.

The Power fell to 0-4 with the loss and the Hot Rods improved to 2-3 with the win. Garcia, Robbie Grossman and Chase D'Arnaud all turned in two-hit performances for the Power. Grossman has recorded multiple hits in three out of the first four games this season.

The Power will continue the four game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Appalachian Power Park on Tuesday night. Bowling Green will start left hander Michael Jarman and the Power will counter with right hander Duke Welker (0-1, 9.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
