Lancaster Stormers News Release
It took the Lexington Legends only two nights to figure out Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Four Lexington right-handed batters homered to right field on Wednesday evening as the South Division leaders defeated the host Lancaster Barnstormers, 16-7, in the middle game of a three-game series.
D.J. Peterson hit the first, and most devastating blow of the night, lining a three-run shot onto the picnic deck to give the Legends a 6-0 lead off Augie Sylk (1-1) in the top of the second. Jordan Pacheco and Tillman Pugh also hit solo shots off the Lancaster starter while Ben Aklinski connected off reliever Danny Taggart with the game well out of reach in the ninth.
Lexington took a 1-0 lead in the first on a double by Roberto Baldoquin, a fly out to deep center by Peterson and Keon Barnum's bloop hit down the left field line. Pugh doubled home two runs with a drive to the gap in left center in the top of the second, three batters before Peterson's blast.
The Legends added an unearned run in the third and Pacheco's homer in the fourth before Lancaster could reach the scoreboard.
Shawn Blackwell (3-1) shut out the Barnstormers on two hits over the first four innings before a triple by Nick Shumpert and sacrifice fly by Cleuluis Rondon produced the first Lancaster run in the fifth.
Blackwell worked 5 2/3 innings, yielding three hits and three walks while striking out five.
The Barnstormers rallied for three in the bottom of the seventh, one on a single by Blake Allemand and two on a double off the right field wall by Blake Gaiilen, but the Legends sealed the contest with five in the eighth and two in the ninth.
The rubber game of the series is slated for Thursday at 6:30. Lancaster will send right-hander Francisco Mendoza (0-0) to the mound against lefty Henry Owens (1-1). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:30.
