Lexington Legends News Release

The Augusta GreenJackets held off a rally by the Lexington Legends to give Madison Bumgarner his first professional win. Bumgarner, the first round pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2007 draft and the 10th overall pick, pitched five innings, allowed two runs and struck out four while not walking a batter.

The GreenJackets began the scoring in the first inning when Ramon Corona, who hit three home runs in Friday night's game, singled to center. Corona scored on Nick Noonan's triple down the right field line. Noonan scored on an error by first baseman Eric Taylor. Angel Villilona then doubled, scoring Garrett Baker. Augusta added a fourth run in the second inning when Baker doubled home Shane Jordan.

Bumgarner, ranked by Baseball America as the Giants' third best prospect, held the Legends scoreless through the first two innings. He allowed a single run to the Legends in both the third and fourth innings. Lexington got on the board in the third on Matt Cusick's RBI groundout that scored Ronny Ramirez. The Legends then added another run in the fourth on a RBI groundout from Max Sapp which scored Steve Brown who had tripled to lead off the inning.

Augusta manager Andew Skeels pulled Bumgarner after five innings. Legends designated hitter Collin DeLome greated reliever Daryl Maday with a home run to left field in the sixth inning for the Legends last run.

The GreenJackets added an insurance run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Corona. Reliever Daniel Otero came on in the ninth for Augusta and allowed two hits before striking out Nick Moresi to end the game.

The Legends fell to 2-8 on the season and lost their fourth game in a row. The Legends and Greenjackets will go at it again Sunday afternoon. Lexington will throw opening day starter Antony Bello against Augusta starter T.J. Brewer.
