Hoppers Leave 13 Stranded in 7-3 Loss to Asheville

Greensboro, N.C. - The bats were lively Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park as the Greensboro Grasshoppers collected a season-high 13 hits despite falling 7-3 to the visiting Asheville Tourists.
Four Greensboro (6-4) batters had two or more hits in the game with Ryan Anetsberger going 4-for-5 and Ryan Curry and Ozzie Martinez both going 3-for-4 at the plate; Mike Stanton was 2-for-4, but only three runs scored.
Down 4-0 heading into the home-half of the fourth inning, Greensboro's Anetsberger and Stanton led off with back-to-back hits. Three batters later with the bases loaded, Curry drove in Anetsberger and Stanton by doubling to left field. An inning later the Grasshoppers added their final run of the game when Tom Hickman scored Bryan Petersen with his lone hit of the night.
The Hoppers tried to rally in the bottom half of the ninth, but with no outs and runners on first and second, the Tourists brought in Randall Taylor who picked up his third save by striking out Stanton and Hickman before getting Torre Langley to hit a grounder to third for the force out.
Colby Miller (0-2) took the loss after pitching 4.0 innings and giving up four runs on six hits. Combined, the Grasshoppers pitching staff gave up four home runs which accounted for six of Asheville's seven runs.
Manager Edwin Rodriguez's squad returns to the field Sunday for Game 3 of the Grasshoppers current four-game series with the Tourists; start time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
Greensboro's Brett Durand (1-0, 0.00) is slated to square off against Asheville's Sheng-An Kuo (1-0, 1.59) on the mound as the Grasshoppers host the first of 11 Moses Cone Health System Family Day Sunday's at NewBridge Bank Park. Part of the family fun includes kids being allowed on the field before the game to play catch and running the bases after the game.
