
Legends Drop Early Lead and Fall to Intimidators

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - Despite an early lead, the Lexington Legends fell in the series finale to the Kannapolis Intimidators, 4-2. The Legends are now tied for second place in the Southern Division in the South Atlantic League and are 2.0 games out of first place.
The Legends were first to score in the bottom of the first inning. Michael Gigliotti led off with a single then swiped second base and went on to steal third, also. An RBI single to right field by Eric Cole brought home Gigliotti and Lexington led, 1-0.
Kannapolis took the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Amando Nunez blasted a solo home run to left field to tie the game, 1-1. Gunnar Troutwine then lined a single to right field and advanced to second when Ramon Beltre reached base on a dropped third strike. An RBI single by Ian Dawkins brought home Troutwine and Beltre went on to score on an RBI single by Lenyn Sosa. The Intimidators led 3-1 after the fourth inning.
Lexington plated their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Eric Cole and Chase Vallot drew back-to-back walks. Cole then scored on an RBI double by Juan Carlos Negret and the Legends continued to trail 3-2.
The Intimidators scored their final insurance run in the top of the eighth inning. Luis Curbelo led off with a triple to centerfield then scored on the very next play. Nunez belted an RBI double to bring home Curbelo and Kannapolis held on to the 4-2 victory.
Taylor Varnell was awarded the victory for the Intimidators tossing 5.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out eight. Kris Bubic was given the loss pitching 3.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out eight.
The Legends now welcome in the Augusta Greenjackets for a three-game series beginning tomorrow, May 11 at 6:35pm at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
