Legends drop 6-4 decision

EASTLAKE, OH. - The Lake County Captains scored two eighth inning runs to send the Lexington Legends to a 6-4 defeat on Thursday night. Jamie Gant (0-2) coughed up the two runs to suffer the loss. The Legends remain in first place by 1 1/2 games over Delmarva, who lost 13-3 to Hickory.

Sean Walker had a rare off night leading to four early runs by Lake County. Chris De La Cruz and Juan Valdez each had run scoring singles in the second inning. Mike Conroy doubled the Captains lead with a two-run home run in the third inning.

Lexington's offense heated up with three runs in the seventh inning. Singles by Wladimir Sutil and Eric King put two aboard. Mitch Einertson loaded the bases after being by a pitch. Mark Ori delivered the Legends first run with a bases-loaded walk. J.R. Towles fielder's choice scored King. Eli Iorg forced in Einertson with a ground out to short to make it 4-3.

The Legends tied the game with a run in the top of the 8th inning. Einertson's sacrifice fly plated Koby Clemens, who led off the inning with a single.

The tie didn't last. The Captains scored two in the bottom half of the frame. Mike Conroy's single scored Matt Fornasiere. Conroy scored two batters later on a throwing error by Wladimir Sutil on a fielder's choice.

The loss drops Lexington to 10-4 on the season. Lake County snaps a four game losing streak and improves to 7-7.

The series finale is scheduled for 7:05pm on Friday night. Brian Bogusevic is set to start for the Legends. The Captains will go with Kevin Dixon. You can listen to the action on ESPN Sports Radio 1300, WLXG.
