Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs' home radio broadcasts will feature guest celebrity commentators throughout the 2006 season. The guests will include local broadcast and print media in addition to other Charleston-area notables.
The list is headlined by play-by-play voices from other area college and professional sports teams. Guests will join RiverDogs' announcer Josh Maurer on a rotating basis during select games at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
"We are excited to bring new voices to our broadcast booth, especially such recognizable ones as we have compiled," said RiverDogs' General Manager Dave Echols. "This is a terrific way to include popular members of the community in the RiverDogs' family."
RiverDogs games can be heard on flagship station ESPN Radio 910 "The Team," a part of Kirkman Broadcasting, Inc., and on the Internet at www.riverdogs.com.
Among those scheduled to participate with the RiverDogs' Radio Network are Tony Ciuffo, the veteran College of Charleston play-by-play broadcaster and Robby Robinson, the voice of The Citadel Bulldogs. Sports anchors from Live 5 News (CBS), ABC 4 and NBC 2 will also be represented.
"I think each guest will bring something unique to the table," said Mauer. "I am confident our commentators will offer insight into the broadcasts that our fans can relate to while adding another point of view to RiverDogs baseball."
The guest list also includes The Post and Courier's award-winning columnist Ken Burger, popular afternoon radio DJ "The Critic," Charleston Southern play-by-play voice Claude Dicks, Charleston Battery broadcaster Andrew Bell, and sports talk personalities Darren Goldwater and Ted Byrne.
The RiverDogs begin an eight-game homestand Thursday night, April 20, with the first of a four-game series against the defending South Atlantic League champion Kannapolis Intimidators at 7:05 pm. Dicks (Saturday), Goldwater (Sunday), Burger (Monday), and Bell (Thursday the 27th), are currently slated to appear in the booth.
