Legends Announce Friends of Wednesday's Child Night
February 10, 2014 - NBA G League (G League)
Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX (Feb. 10, 2014) - Friends of Wednesday's Child was born from a one-time golf tournament between a group of friends looking to give back. The group was moved by the stories of foster children on the local program "Wednesday's Child", and decided to form a benefit program designed to meet the needs of those children. Since 1984, the organization has grown from a single event raising approximately $18,000 to a substantial agency filling more than 25,000 requests in the past five years alone. The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz, are proud to announce a partnership with Ryan, LLC and Friends of Wednesday's Child that celebrates the growth of the organization and the impact they have had on the community around them.
"Friends of Wednesday's Child's vision is that all children in foster care have success in school and in life," said Sharon McGowan, executive director of Friends of Wednesday's Child. "Thanks to great community partners like the Ryan Foundation, our Sustaining Sponsor, and Texas Legends Care, children in foster care will have a bright and promising future through improved educational outcomes."
The Legends will wear customized jerseys celebrating Friends of Wednesday's Child, uniquely branded with both the Ryan, LLC and Texas Legends logos. Select jerseys will be available through a silent auction during the game, with all proceeds going to Friends of Wednesday's Child. As part of the festivities of the night, select individuals from the organization will be recognized as "Legends of the Night."
"It is our honor to support an organization that is taking steps to ensure the long-term success of North Texas foster children by investing in their academic success," commented Brint Ryan, Chairman and CEO of Ryan, LLC and Chairman of the Ryan Foundation. "Friends of Wednesday's Child has a noble mission and plays an important part in the lives of deserving children who are striving to achieve their dreams."
The Legends face the San Antonio Spurs affiliate, the Austin Toros, at 7 pm on Feb 11. The two teams will meet for the eighth time this season with the Legends leading the series 5-2. The Legends are currently fighting to get back in playoff contention, while both teams are looking to end a four-game losing streak.
The game will be broadcast live on both television - KTXD 47 - and radio - KVCE 1160am. For tickets or information visit www.TexLegends.com. To learn more about Friends of Wednesday's Child visit wedchild.org.
