Springfield, MO - The Texas League announced on Monday that Springfield Cardinals RHP Thomas Lee has been named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 4 - 10.
Lee, 25, was excellent in his one start during the week, leading the Cardinals to the 5-0 shutout win against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Friday, May 8. He shut down the Naturals lineup through a career-high 8.2 innings, coming just one out shy of a complete-game shutout. The right-hander struck out five while only allowing six hits and two walks throughout the scoreless start.
The dominant performance last Friday marked the second scoreless start of the season for Lee, who also blanked the Arkansas Travelers through 7.0 frames on April 23. The Bakersfield, California native is 2-2 with a 6.68 ERA through six starts early in his first Double-A campaign.
Lee has been effective at every level throughout his professional career, compiling a 19-11 record with a 3.74 ERA throughout 76 games and 21 starts. He has walked only 33 batters through 231.0 career innings, after signing with St. Louis as a non-drafted free agent on June 15, 2012 out of Sonoma State University.
