PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves shut out the Huntsville Stars 4-0 at Trustmark Park Friday evening. Jaime Pedroza went 3-for-3 at the plate while Jose Martinez drove in two runs for the Braves. The series continues with Fan Appreciation Night Saturday at 6:00 PM. The M-Braves will be giving away tons of prizes along with discounted tickets, hot dogs and post-game fireworks.

Mississippi (33-27, 71-59) scored four runs on seven hits while holding Huntsville (26-35, 55-74) to nine hits. The Stars committed one error in the game. Michael Lee (9-8) held the Stars to eight hits and one walk. He struck out three batters in seven shutout innings to pick up his team-leading ninth win of the season.

The M-Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Tommy La Stella doubled and Edward Salcedo walked to start the frame. Martinez followed with a two-run double to right field, putting the M-Braves out front early in the game.

Martinez singled and scored on Robby Hefflinger's double off the right field wall extending the M-Braves lead to 3-0 in the sixth. Christian Marrero followed with a walk and Pedroza's base hit to right field drove home Hefflinger, making it a 4-0 game.

Drew Gagnon (4-8) gave up four earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out four batters in five and two-thirds innings. Juan Jaime and Ryne Harper came on to work the final two frames for the Braves.

M-Braves lefty Ian Thomas (7-7, 2.80) counters Stars right-hander Andy Moye (5-14, 4.17) in game two of this five-game series at Trustmark Park. First pitch is slated for 6:00 PM. Gates open at 5:00 PM.
