Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TN - The final home series of the season got off to a rough start as the Chattanooga Lookouts (22-38) stole a 3-2 extra-inning game away from the Jackson Generals (28-31). Jackson fell in 10 innings and dropped to 5-12 in extra-inning games as Chattanooga is now 7-4 in extra frame games. The Generals have now lost a season-worst six games in a row.
Both teams rode solid starting pitching performances to begin the series. Ross Stripling continued his impressive August with seven innings of one-run ball. He surrendered four hits and struck out three. Moises Hernandez (ND, 1-2, 5.20) essentially matched, if not bettered Stripling's start. The right-hander appeared in his 22nd game of the season, but only his second start and powered through five innings. Hernandez allowed one run on two hits all while not walking a single hitter. The one run was a solo, no-doubt home run off of Joc Pederson's bat.
Jackson was led offensively by Jabari Blash (2-2, HR, RBI, 2 R, 2 BB), who homered for the sixth time in only his 20th Double-A game. The outfielder extended his hitting streak to seven games and now has hits in 15 of his first 20 games with Jackson, with a single in the fourth. His long ball in the sixth gave the Generals the lead, 2-1, after Ramon Morla (3-5, 2 2B, RBI) doubled Blash across the plate back in the fourth.
Seven of the nine starters had hits on a night that the Generals pounded out 11 in total. The bullpen had the opportunity to close it out with a one-run lead though, and failed. Chattanooga knotted things up on a wild pitch in the eighth, then they took advantage of a few hits to start the 10th to push a run across to secure the victory.
It was another night of missed opportunities for the Generals. They were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left a total of 14 runners on base. They left the bases loaded to end an inning twice.
The series will continue on Saturday with a 6:05 p.m. (CT) start. Left-hander James Gillheeney (6-6, 3.87) will make the start for Jackson. Chattanooga will oppose with right-hander Garrett Gould (2-4, 4.60). The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
