Iowa Barnstormers News Release
DES MOINES -- Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach John Gregory today announced that the 2007 af2 Ironman of the Year, Jack Walker, Jr., will be on the field for the Barnstormers as they seek their first win of the season Saturday night at Quad City.
"Jack is a game changer on both sides of the ball. Barnstormers fans are in for a real treat as Jack gives us a player who can make an immediate contribution," said Coach Gregory after Walker was officially assigned to the Barnstormers through the league's free agent assignment process.
Walker, who played for the Quad City Steamwheelers in 2007, is a true throwback as af2 coaches and media selected him as the 2007 league-wide Ironman of the Year after posting 130 receptions, 1,322 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns as a wide receiver. On defense playing the Jack Linebacker position, Walker finished third in the af2 with six fumble recoveries and recorded 24.5 tackles, seven pass breakups and three forced fumbles.
For his career, the veteran two-way standout ranks among the league's all-time leaders in a number of statistical categories, including scoring (5th - 864), pass receptions (2nd - 497), receiving yards (3rd - 5,995) and receiving touchdowns (2nd - 136).
The Barnstormers travel to the Quad Cities Saturday for a 7 p.m. match-up with Midwest Division rival Quad City Steamwheelers at the i Wireless Center in Moline, Illinois. Barnstormers fans can catch all the action live on the radio at ESPN AM 1700 The Champ or broadcast online on the Barnstormers Video Network found at www.theiowabarnstormers.com.
