Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Waterloo Black Hawks forward Xander Lamppa has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Penn State Nittany Lions, the team announced Thursday.

Lamppa leads the Black Hawks with 42 points (14 goals, 28 assists) in 44 games during the current season. The veteran's point total ties for 16th in the United States Hockey League, while his 28 assists tie for ninth in the USHL. Lamppa also leads Waterloo with six power play goals and is tied for the team's top mark with 11 power play points.

"This year, we've seen growth from Xander in several parts of his game, but particularly as a play-maker," said Black Hawks General Manager Shane Fukushima. "His strong season drew a lot of attention, but Xander was very patient and didn't rush the process. I know this is something he looked forward to for some time."

By this season's USHL holiday break, Lamppa had already matched his point production from 2018/19 (26 points from seven goals and 19 assists). A year ago, he played in all but four Black Hawks games and ranked 10th in team scoring. Lamppa's +12 plus/minus differential in his first season tied for ninth on the team and fourth among Waterloo forwards.

The current Black Hawks roster now includes 19 players with college commitments.

Current Penn State junior forward Alex Limoges was a Black Hawk in 2016/17 before joining the Nittany Lions. The relatively young Division I program at Penn State has had one other former Waterloo player on the roster: goaltender Eamon McAdam was a member of the team from 2013/14 to 2015/16.
