GENEVA, ILLINOIS - In an event that has become a tradition among junior hockey teams, the Chicago Steel are set to host their fifth annual Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by Geneva Family Dental on Saturday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena when they host the Madison Capitols. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped stuffed animal to toss onto the ice after the team's first goal to be donated to charity.

Geneva Family Dental, Team Dentist to the Steel, has sponsored the event for the third consecutive season and will be awarding Steel fans with a coupon for a free whitening tray to celebrate the first Steel goal on Saturday night.

Last season, more than 500 stuffed animals were tossed onto the ice when the Steel broke a scoreless tie in the second period of their Jan. 19, 2019 game vs, Sioux City. This season, the bears will be donated to charities including Big Hearts of Fox Valley, WINGS Program, Inc. and Mooseheart Child City & School.

In addition to the Teddy Bear Toss, the Saturday night game includes many fan-favorite promotions including the McCue Chevy Family Challenge in which two families will compete in a hockey competition in which the kids will skate and score before the parents take off their hockey equipment and store their gear in a McCue Chevy vehicle.

The Steel have won nine consecutive games, the club's second-longest streak of the season, heading into a home-and-home set against the Madison Capitols beginning with a road trip to Wisconsin on Friday.

Chicago (37-7-1-0, 75 pts) can punch its ticket to the 2020 Clark Cup Playoffs with a victory on Friday night. A win would give the club their 38th victory of the season, matching a franchise record set in 2016-17.

Last weekend, the Steel beat the Waterloo Black Hawks 5-2 on Saturday night and followed up the performance with a 3-0 win over the Capitols on Sunday, netminder Ian Shane's first whitewash of the season.

On Wednesday morning, the Steel extended their win streak with a 5-4 overtime win against the Youngstown Phantoms, closing out the six-game season series with a 5-1-0-0 mark against Youngstown. Owen Power scored twice in the contest and Brendan Brisson compiled a career-high four assists in the victory.

The Steel have a 6-0-0-0 mark in the season series against Madison and this weekend's back-to-back set will conclude the eight-game regular season slate between the Steel and Capitols. The last two games have been shutout victories by Chicago with netminder Victor Ostman turning away 30 shots in a 4-0 win on Jan. 31 before Shane's 3-0 victory last Sunday. Madison forward Ryan Kirwan leads the team with 21 goals but has only reached the back of the net once in six games against the Steel this season.
