Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Derek Wilkinson, Head Coach and General Manager of the Charlotte Checkers, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with Dusty Jamieson. Jamieson returns to the Checkers as the team's leading goal scorer for each of the last three seasons.

Jamieson, 24, racked up 53 points (31g, 22a) and recorded his first hat trick in the ECHL (2/11/05 vs. Gwinnett) while helping the Checkers reach the playoffs last season. He recorded 10 points (2g, 8a) during last season's playoff run which took the Checkers to the American Conference finals.

"I'm thrilled to have Dusty back in Charlotte," said Wilkinson. "He's been our leading goal scorer for a few years and with the rule changes, it should only further his ability to score goals for us this year."

"I'm very excited to be back in Charlotte," said Jamieson. "We had a great run last season and we were very close to accomplishing our goal of winning a championship. Last season was the most fun I've had in hockey in a while and I feel that run made me even hungrier to win a championship."

A 6-foot-3-inch, 195-pound left winger, Jamieson joined the Checkers for his rookie campaign in the ECHL during the 2002-03 season. He finished the season with 27 goals (tied for the team lead with Kevin Caulfield) and led the league amongst rookies with seven game-winning goals.

Jamieson, a native of Forest, Ontario, followed up his rookie season by leading the Checkers in goals (24) and points (46, tied with Allan Egeland) during the 2003-04 season. He was also called up for a six-game stint with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL.

Prior to joining the Checkers, Jamieson was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft (136th pick overall) and played six seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (1997-2002).

The Charlotte Checkers open their 13th season in the ECHL Friday, October 21st at Gwinnett. The Checkers are Bound for Uptown as they open their home schedule Sunday, November 6th in their new home at New Charlotte Arena against Greenville.
