West Texas Roughnecks News Release
MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks are excited to announce on Thursday, June 24 that linebacker Eric Henri has been selected to the First Team All-IFL Special Teams category as a specialist. Henri led the Roughnecks with 80.0 total tackles in 2010 and finished second on the team with three interceptions. Henri additionally finished fourth on the team with two sacks in 12 games played during the 2010 regular season.
"We are certainly excited for Eric and we are glad to see that he was rewarded for his excellent first season as a Roughneck. Henri was one of the most consistent players in our defensive unit and he was an important factor that helped our club reach the post-season." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.
Henri was named VidSwap.com IFL Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, along with Roughnecks LB Johnny Anderson, back in week one of the regular season. Henri and Anderson combined to help the Roughnecks collect their first win of the season against the Abilene Ruff Riders as Anderson blocked a last-minute field goal attempt and Henri recovered the loose football in the end-zone for the go-ahead score.
Henri (6'1", 220 lbs.) was acquired by the Roughnecks back in November of 2009 after compiling one of the most successful collegiate football careers at Mary Hardin-Baylor. Henri was a three-year starter at outside linebacker for Mary Hardin-Baylor from 2006 to 2008. Before the start of his senior campaign in 2008, the Allen, Texas native was named the American Southwest Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Henri lived up to his honorary selection by leading the program with 97 total tackles with 11.5 tackles-for-loss and three sacks in 14 games played. Following the end of the 2008 season, Henri was voted the ASC Defensive Player of the Year and was named a First Team All-Conference selection. Henri was also named to the Associated Press Little All-American Third Team which honors NCAA Division-II, Division-III and NAIA players.
