Green Bay, WI: The Indoor Football League has announced the end of year awards for the 2010 season. The Green Bay Blizzard were nominated for seven awards. Green Bay Blizzard linebacker Maurice Simpkins was named the 2010 IFL Most Improved Player.
The Most Improved Player Award is for the individual who improved their overall level of play from last season to this season. Simpkins won the award based off his performance as one of the top linebackers in the league, improving greatly upon his 2009 campaign. This year Simpkins had 126 total tackles. Simpkins also had five sacks on the year and one forced fumble. The LB had five interceptions for a total of 93 yards and returned two interceptions for touchdowns. Simpkins was also responsible for breaking up three passes.
The other nominations for the Blizzard included: Defensive Player of the Year (Simpkins), Special Teams Player of the Year (DB B.J. Hill), Offensive Rookie of the Year (QB Jake Phillips), Defensive Rookie of the Year (DB B.J. Hill), Best Game Operations (Blizzard) and Best Fan Base (Blizzard).
Richmond Revolution quarterback Bryan Randall was chosen as the league's Most Valuable Player. Randall finished his rookie season third in the league with 58 touchdown passes, and 8th in the league with 2033 yards. Randall also led the Revolution on the ground with 374 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns, leading the team to a league best 13-1 record. Revolution Head Coach Steve Criswell was also named the IFL's Coach of the Year, for leading the team to their 13-1 record in their first ever season.
The Blizzard begin post-season play this upcoming Saturday evening, against the Chicago Slaughter. Kickoff is set for 7:05pm at Online Trading Academy Field in the Resch Center. Three Blizzard Players Named All-IFL
Green Bay, WI: The Indoor Football League has announced the top players across the league for the first and second All-IFL teams. Each player named was a stand-out at his position and exemplifies the tremendous talent and quality within the league. The Green Bay Blizzard had two players named to the First Team and one player to the Second Team.
Blizzard kicker Tino Amancio was named First Team All-IFL Special Teams. He was 28 for 46 on field goal attempts and 69 for 82 on extra point attempts. Amancio's longest field goal was 55 yards.
Linebacker Maurice Simpkins was named First Team All-IFL Defense. He had 126 total tackles, 5 sacks, 5 interceptions (2 returned for touchdowns) 3 passes broken up and 1 forced fumble. Simpkins was the leader of the Blizzard defense all season long.
Kick returner B.J. Hill was named Second Team All-IFL Special Teams. He had 1028 yards on 47 returns. Hill returned three kicks for touchdowns, including two last week in a victory over Chicago. He was also a big contributor as a defensive back.
