Colorado Eagles News Release
(Windsor, CO) - The Colorado Eagles beat the Utah Grizzlies 6-3 Wednesday night for their fourth consecutive victory. A hat trick by forward Johnny Lazo boosted Colorado to the win and now gives him six goals in the last three games.
Lazo continued his hot streak, as the rookie buried a rebound on the powerplay past Utah goaltender Ryan Faragher to give Colorado a 1-0 lead at the 5:23 mark of the first period.
Colorado took a 2-0 advantage with 5:07 to play in the first when Lazo netted his second goal of the night. The puck left Lazo's stick and took a bounce off Faragher and into the goal. The Eagles would hold the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Utah broke up the shutout 6:04 into the second period when forward Charles Sarault scored his 11th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Just 4:01 later, defenseman Collin Bowman gave the Eagles some padding by scoring from the left circle for his 10th goal of the season and giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
Colorado scored their fourth goal of the night with 3:48 to play in the second period as forward Derek Rodwell got his stick on the puck as it bounced toward the net, putting the Eagles on top 4-1.
Utah cut into the Eagles lead with a power-play goal off the stick of forward Alexander Krushelnyski at the 6:14 mark of the third period, making it a 4-2 Eagles advantage. Then with 10:34 to play in the final frame, the Grizzlies added another, with a goal from Roberts Lipsbergs from the low-slot, tightening the score to 4-3.
Late in the third period it was Lazo again, as this time he stole the puck off the forecheck and went one-on-one with Faragher to complete the hat trick with 2:00 to play in the game and stretch the Eagles lead to 5-3.
An empty-netter by forward Trent Daavettila with 40 seconds to play cemented a 6-3 Colorado win.
The Eagles continue their homestand on Friday when they welcome the Alaska Aces to town for a two-game series. The puck drops at 7:05 MT.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
