Mallards Sign Goaltender Jacobson
January 28, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards have signed goaltender David Jacobson, the Mallards announced today.
Jacobson, a 25-year old rookie, has won six straight starts and posted a sterling 1.84 goals against average and a .936 save percentage since debuting for the Southern Professional Hockey League's Peoria Rivermen on New Year's Day. Jacobson, who started the season with the SPHL's Macon Mayhem, has gone 6-4-0 overall in the SPHL with a 2.42 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.
Jacobson turned professional after four standout seasons at St. Norbert College. The 5' 9", 165-pound Janesville, Wisconsin, native backstopped the Green Knights to the 2012 and 2014 Division III national titles, won the Sid Watson Award as 2013-14 NCAA Division III player of the year, was twice voted an All-American and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 Frozen Four.
Jacobson went an eye-popping 75-11-6 in 95 career collegiate games while recording a 1.49 goals against average, a .932 save percentage and a whopping 20 shutouts. He finished his collegiate career second in Division III history in shutouts and third all-time in victories.
Jacobson last year went 12-2-1 with a 1.59 goals against average, a .924 save percentage and three shutouts in 16 games before his senior season was ended by a broken leg. There was no doubting Jacobson's qualifications for national player of the year honors after he went 24-1-1 in 26 games and turned in a 1.26 goals against average, a .936 save percentage and seven shutouts as a junior.
Jacobson returns to the Quad Cities with the Mallards some six years after tending goal for the Quad City Junior Flames of the Central States Hockey League in 2009-10. He moved on to the North American Hockey League's Janesville Jets the following season.
The Mallards return to action on the road tomorrow night against the Kalamazoo Wings. The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday, February 3 at 6:35 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
