Lawson to Run for Alzheimer's Association

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Sept. 29, 2011) Connecticut Sun guard Kara Lawson announced today she will participate in the New York City Marathon Weekend, running in the inaugural New York Road Runners Dash To The Finish 5K on November 5th to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association.
Lawson's husband, Damien Barling, will do his part the following day by running in the New York City Marathon.
In August, University of Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt revealed that she has been diagnosed with early onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. Lawson was an All-American at Tennessee, playing for the Lady Volunteers from 2000-2003.
Coach Summitt has been an influential part of my life and remains so today, said Lawson, noting the couple
will work closely with the Alzheimer's Association chapter in New York City. Participating in the NYC Marathon weekend, along with my husband Damien, allows us to do our part in helping raise awareness and money for research for the Alzheimer's Association. Knowing how strong the women's basketball community is, we feel confident in the support we will garner. We want to impact this disease with coach Summitt in our hearts and minds.

"I am humbled that Kara and Damien will be participating in the New York City Marathon in my honor," Summitt said. "Both are fierce competitors, but more importantly, they are incredible people. I wish each of them well and will be pulling for them to achieve their personal best."
