Reno Aces News Release
Reno, NV - Jordan Lawlar homered and drove in four in his Reno Aces (22-18, 66-49) debut in a 17-12 series opening win over the Las Vegas Aviators (24-16, 58-56) Tuesday night at Greater Nevada Field.
The Aces fell behind 5-0 in the first but didn't falter one bit. Reno's offense ignited for 17 hits, including three from Emmanuel Rivera and four from Pavin Smith. Rivera, Smith, Tristin English, Phillip Evans, and Blaze Alexander notched multi-hit nights. Alexander doubled and added a booming three-run homer to dead center in the fifth. The IMG Academy product drove in four.
Lawlar, after an exceptional run at Double-A Amarillo, brought his best bat from the Lone Star State. With one on in the second, Lawlar banged his first Triple-A homer with a 425-foot no doubter off the scoreboard in left. The former 6th overall pick wasn't done there. Lawlar drew two bases loaded walks in the third and seventh, driving in his third and fourth runs of the game. The 21-year-old top global prospect continued to boost his stock with a fantastic showing at the plate and an impressive display at shortstop.
Dominic Fletcher, the defending PCL Player of the Week, created the action from the top of the order again Tuesday. Fletcher drew a remarkable five walks and added a bunt single, raising his OPS to .940. The Aces went 8-for-19 with runners in scoring position and imposed their will on a shaky Aviators pitching staff. With 35 games left to play, Reno is 2.0 games behind Las Vegas in the standings with 11 more head-to-head matchups on tap.
The Aces and Aviators continue their series Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. PT from Greater Nevada Field.
