Asheville Tourists News Release

HICKORY - The Asheville Tourists hit a pair of two-run Home Runs on Wednesday morning against the Hickory Crawdads. The first blast opened the scoring and the second was the final scoring play of the game; however, the Crawdads managed six runs between Asheville's two Home Runs and knocked off the Tourists 6-4 in the series finale.

Grant Lavigne put Asheville in front with a two-run Home Run off Hans Crouse in the top of the fourth inning. That was all Asheville would muster off the Texas Rangers top prospect as Crouse worked into the seventh inning. The homer gave the Tourists a short lived 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Shelby Lackey ran into a little trouble when the Crawdads put two runners aboard with one out. Curtis Terry then launched a three-run Home Run to give Hickory a lead they would never relinquish. Miguel Aparicio added a two-run Home Run for the home team in the fifth.

Hickory plated one more in the eighth but the Tourists showed some fight in the top of the ninth. Terrin Vavra worked a walk and with two outs Willie MacIver blasted a two-run Home Run to left.

With Asheville back within striking distance, Daniel Montano and Coco Montes smacked back-to-back two-out singles to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. John Cresto lined a ball to shallow left-center but Hickory's shortstop, Chris Seise, made the catch to end the game.

Jacob Bird and Boby Johnson each pitched a scoreless inning out of the Tourists bullpen. Asheville finished their road trip 2-5. The Tourists open a three-game series versus the West Virginia Power on Thursday. The series opener at McCormick Field begins at 7:05pm.
