Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

One night after slapping a walk-off single to right field in his third game with Pawtucket, Ryan Lavarnway cracked a pair of homeruns to power a second straight PawSox victory.

The last two games needed extra innings to complete, but with the PawSox riding the early offense of Lavarnway and the late offense of Josh Reddick, they were able to win Friday night's battle 8-3 in nine innings in front of 5,608 fans at McCoy Stadium.

Both Lavarnway and Reddick recorded a pair of homeruns and four RBI in the victory. The eight RBI between the two batters accounted for all the PawSox runs in the game that put Pawtucket two games over .500 on the season.

Since being promoted to Triple-A, Ryan Lavarnway has done nothing to have anyone second-guess that decision. The 23-year old is 8-for-16 with three runs scored, six RBI and two homeruns. In Friday's game he walked in the eighth inning to reach base in all four times he stepped to the plate. His on-base percentage currently sits at .529. It was 4-2 Pawtucket before Josh Reddick ever made his mark on the game. Reddick followed-up Lavarnway's second homerun of the game with his first- a blast that hugged the foul pole and cleared the back wall in right field to leave the stadium entirely. His second homerun was a three-run shot in the eighth inning that provided the insurance runs Pawtucket needed to cruise to a five-run victory. In six games versus Lehigh Valley this season, Reddick has blasted six homeruns. He leads the team with 14 total homeruns on the season.

Pawtucket starting pitcher Brandon Duckworth tied his season high with seven strikeouts despite pitching only 3.2 innings. In his previous seven strikeout performance this season, he needed seven innings to complete the feat. Tony Pena Jr. picked up the win to move his overall record to 4-3 on the season, while Scott Atchison pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to lock-up his second save of 2011.

Game three of the four-game series between Pawtucket and Lehigh Valley will take place Saturday night at McCoy Stadium. Taking the mound for Pawtucket Saturday will be Kevin Millwood (2-0, 3.77 ERA) facing-off against Ryan Feierabend (5-3, 5.79 ERA) of the Iron Pigs. Saturday will be Irish Night where all fans in attendance who register at the front gate of McCoy Stadium will be entered to win a trip-for-two to Ireland. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
